Looking to detect early stage damage in Concrete?
Introducing an exciting new and revolutionary product in the field of non-destructive testing for concrete. Developed over 4 years, the Maverick has undergone both vigorous and numerous tests, ensuring that Maverick is the first portable NDT instrument that is capable of detecting early stage micro-cracking problems in concrete structures.
Independent benchmark tests compared the Maverick against a traditional Pulse Velocity device, whilst Maverick clearly detected signs of micro-cracking the Pulse Velocity device indicated no change.
The ultrasonic testing of the early stages of damage in concrete structures has
posed many problems. Conventional
methods such as pitch catch examine the
acoustic pulse delay and amplitude change
as it passes through or over a concrete
structure.
However, though such changes are
minimal until the concrete has been stressed
to approximately 80% of its maximum
compressive strength, the concrete’s tensile
strength is significantly weakened at much
lower values.
The pulse echo method is of limited use as
the aggregates cause scattering and multiple
reflections. Impact echo method has proved
useful for the detection of large near surface
cracks and defects but does not detect microcracks.
Similarly, impact resonance will
only give an indication of the latter stages of
damage.
The Maverick instrument uses ultrasound techniques, including non-linear acoustics, to effectively detect micro-cracks in different types of materials of all shapes. The Maverick can even detect fouling in pipes, a major problem in the oil and gas industry.
Applications:
- In-situ testing of Concrete including laboratory research and development of new concrete mixes.
- Detection of micro-cracks in ceramic, clay and metal pipes.
- Carbon composite testing for de-lamination and damage.
- Detection of fouling deposits in industrial pipe installations such as oil, gas and food industries.
